Poet, Dreamer, Mother, Artist

29 Sep

Mom with a bit of glowFinished the table top, triptych collage piece I was working on. Used a picture of my Mom, photocopies of her letters and poems, and lots of yellow rose pictures, petals, and colour to go with Shirley Wood’s poem, ‘Where Yellow Roses Grow’. It’s an art piece I created for myself but also to show what could be done in my upcoming “Visual Storytelling’ class at Port Moody Art Centre, BC. The September class won’t run (no one signed up), but maybe in November? More importantly though is having created a piece to celebrate Mom’s amazing creativity and spirit.

Mom triptych board piecesThe base for the collage was created by taking a sturdy back board from a used up sketch book, cutting it in half and then one half into half again for the doors. As an art teacher I end up collecting quite a few from the work with students.

Mom back of CollageBack of the triptych with another of Mom’s poems (‘When’ see poem below) and more of the photocopied letters. The yellow leaf was a spontaneous addition which gives the feeling of a backbone or spine to the piece.
