The last few months have been busy ones including designing 12 banners to commemorate Place des Arts’ 40th anniversary season. The themes of the 12 reflect the local history, culture, and native flora and fauna of the community. This particular banner was designed to celebrate the weavers and potters that call Place des Arts home.
There were 6 painting sessions over the summer to bring the community in on the painting and, at the very beginning, in on the designs as well. At the end of September the banners will move outside to enhance the aesthetic appeal of Carré Heritage Square.
The whole thing has been a lot of fun and starting September 6 at 7:00pm the banners will be on display in the Leonore Peyton Salon at Place des Arts in Coquitlam, BC. The opening will be in conjunction with Place des Arts’ Adult Open House: Ignite . . . an Affair with Art! This event is always entertaining and is a way to showcase the upcoming adult classes for Place des Arts. I’ll be there demonstrating a technique for my upcoming Inspired by Nature: Acrylic Art class.
