Eletelephony acOne of the earliest poems I remember was when I was in grade three and the students memorized Eletelephony, written by Laura Elizabeth Richards in the late 19th C. In 1988 I was enrolled in a Children’s Book Illustration class and this acrylic, collage piece was created at that time. Though I placed my elephant in an imaginary jungle environment I also put a border around it and had the trees box him in so it would feel like an old fashioned phone booth. He is more blue than grey to indicate how he’s feeling as well as an orange sky as background to enhance the feeling of frustration and maybe he’s been at this all day. It is still a favourite of my illustrations after all this time.
