Dancer Dreams I & II

07 Mar

Another pair for the upcoming show at Place des Arts: “Dancer Dreams”. I’ve written before about her on my blog but the painting is new. Years ago I watched a movie “Ishtar” which to some critics is considered one of the top 10 worst movies of all times. Yet for me I laughed all the way through and loved the premise which challenged the idea that you can be anything you want to be. What if you have less than no talent in the area of your dream? Dancer Dreams is about that paradox. In the painting there is no room for her feet, they are barely indicated and the sculpture  is awkward as well when it comes to her feet. Yet there is this light, and exuberance and purity of dream for me that makes the impossible possible. A song my Mom use to sing to me has a line in it that I built my life around “If you haven’t got a dream, how you going to make a dream come true?” Happy Dreams everyone!

Happy Talky-talk and Happy Talk! Now I have that song in my head.
I love the idea of the clumsy dancer, just following her passion, regardless of success or failure or other people’s judgments. Just out there doing her thing.
