Reminiscing

06 Sep

While on the trip to the Maritimes we stopped by my Alma Mater, Mount Allison University, and toured around the campus. We visited the Gairdner Fine Arts Building which looks almost the same as when I went there in the late 1970’s. This picture is the upstairs studio and my cubicle space there for my 3rd and 4th years. Looking out the window is the wall of the Bell library which had a great selection of Fine Arts books for the students. On the other side of the building is the Owens Art gallery which had some very fine exhibits during my time there. A life changing event in my last year was meeting a 41 year old Mary Pratt there during her exhibit at the gallery. She took time to talk to a very pregnant me and another young mother in the department about being both mother and artist. It was a moment of encouragement that I went back to again and again during my early struggles to keep creating art, no matter what the circumstances.
