I have spent the last week preparing for my talk on Dolls coming up this Thursday in Lethbridge. My focus is on the doll as artifact and what he/she has to tell us about ourselves and the cultures we live in. I’ve enjoyed updating my notes from my course, Symbology and the Doll which I taught at ACAD, Calgary, a few years ago.

Many of the images I’ve prepared for the talk show an unconventional beauty at work in the art.  As the saying goes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. In that vein I am posting an image of Butterlope whom I think is an excellent example of unconventional beauty.
