Dream Weaver is very tall, about 16″. Most of the figures I create are 9″ or smaller. She was originally created for display though a cloth doll making group I belonged to and their directions said she had to be over 12″. It was a challenge for me.
The story of Rumpelstiltskin was going through my mind when I created her. I focused on the Miller’s daughter who had to spin straw into gold. The idea behind the story is metaphoric for me as well. As a mixed media artist who uses found objects, stones, and scraps of fabric in my work I understand that feeling of alchemy as I transform ordinary stuff into something treasured. In many ways Dream Weaver is the most autobiographical of my works.
