A Story to Tell

25 Mar

On page 40 of a favourite book of mine, “Wabi-Sabi: for Artists, Designers, Poets and Philosophers” by Leonard Koren, he writes: “Things are either devolving toward, or evolving from, nothingness.” Though “A Story to Tell” was created before I ever read his book it is respect for the fragility and cyclic nature of life I was aiming for in this piece. Another question for me concerned the delicate nature of ideas; where do they come from, where do they go and how do I as an artist catch something of their elusive splendor? Symbolism in this piece: the hand as the creative act, the patterned stick as nature/source of ideas and the brush as the artist/record keeper.
