“Coyote” is the last of my variations that I will post this week. He was created about 7 years ago when I was artist in residence in a school in Calgary.
There are many myths and stories from cultures all over the world that have talking animals in them including Coyote from First Nations lore. My own connection with Coyote first came from Saturday morning cartoons about Wile E. and the Roadrunner. Though I created Coyote using photographs of real animals it was my first ideas of a coyote that came through in the piece.
The original intention was to create a small scale puppet and he does possess a certain mobility that isn’t in my other works. The other unique thing about Coyote is I see him as male. Most of my work is of a feminine nature.
