Tree Song

“Tree Song” is the third in my musings about one of a kind doll works I have created. The first one had hands, the second had two dolls together and in “Tree Song” she has a face with features. Usually the face of my art doll lacks details as I use a stone or other object to symbolize a face. There are two primary reasons for this. One is the doll is more open to interpretation that way. It is their movement, colour, and form that tells their story. Secondly there is a tradition of no features for sacred art. I feel this works well with the intent behind my pieces.
“Tree Song”, an anomaly to my tradition, was created in a workshop with Dayle Doroshow at the CDAA conference in 2007. Dayle’s wonderful ideas for working with oven drying, modeling clay added to my repertoire of techniques.
